Thrashers U16′s win Next Level Showcase

The New England Thrashers U16 squad participated in the Next Level Showcase this past weekend, which was hosted by the Northern Cyclones. The tournament was held in Hudson, NH and the Thrashers were ready for a good tournament.They entered the tournament with only 2 lines and they played with 10 guys all weekend.

The weekend started off with a game against the Boston Knights on Thursday morning. The Thrashers beat up on the Knights with a convincing 7-3 win. The next game on Friday evening was against the Long Island Royals where the Thrashers were winning until the end and with the short bench, the Thrashers weren’t able to hold off a very good Royals team and lost 4-2 with an empty net. The Thrashers third game of the round robin was against a very talented and well coached Nordiques. The game was back and forth the whole time and with less than a minute left, the Thrashers were losing by won. With the goalie pulled David Cambria look a shot from the slot and scored the game tying goal with .30 seconds left in the game. The Thrashers then were able to score the winner with 2 minutes left in the OT off the stick of Brian Panasuk.

The Thrashers entered the playoffs as the 2 seed and took on the Boston Jr. Rangers and beat them 4-1 in the Sem-Finals. The Thrashers now had a rematch with the Boston Knights in the finals. The game was close the whole time. Rj Guarida scored early in the first and the Thrashers were able to hold the 1 goal lead until late into the game, because of the amazing play in net by Shane Mason. The Thrashers capitalized on a penalty by the Knights late in the game and Brian Panasuk got the PP goal. The Thrashers Organization won their second champion in back to back weekends. The coaches are proud and want to thank all of the players for participating in the tournament this weekend. With a short bench, the player gave the coaches everything they had all weekend and they were able to accomplish their goal of winning the championship.
